10,000 lux at 12–18 inches is non-negotiable. Adjustable brightness is not.

For late-winter SAD, the only feature that actually matters is 10,000 lux delivered at a usable distance—12 to 18 inches from your face. Adjustable brightness, UV filtration, and fancy timers are secondary. If it doesn’t hit that lux at that distance,
