16GB helps a lot for Docker on a Chromebook.
Yes. If you’re running multiple Docker containers or heavy Android apps, 16GB makes a real difference.
The Chromebook’s Linux container (Crostini) already takes a chunk of RAM. Docker containers each need their own memory – even small services like databases or Redis add up fast. With 8GB, you’ll start swapping to disk as soon as you open a couple containers plus a browser. 16GB gives you breathing room to run a dev stack (Postgres, Redis, Node) and still keep Chrome open without the whole thing grinding to a halt.
Android apps in parallel are a similar story. Each app runs in its own container. More RAM means fewer refreshes and less stuttering.
The catch: Chromebooks with 16GB are less common and cost more. But if you actually need Docker for work, the upgrade is worth it. 8GB will frustrate you. 16GB won’t.
