16GB is safe on almost any modern system.

Check the motherboard manual or product page, but I’d be shocked if your computer doesn’t support 16GB. That’s been the standard for over a decade.

The real limiter is the motherboard’s memory slot count and max capacity per slot, not the CPU. Most consumer boards from the last 10+ years support at least 16GB. Even cheap laptops usually handle 16GB fine. If you have a desktop, you can usually go higher.

To be thorough: look up your motherboard model (or laptop model) and find the “memory” spec. It’ll say something like “2 x DIMM slots, max 32GB” or “16GB soldered.” If it’s a prebuilt, check the manufacturer’s support page. CPU specs (like “max memory” listed on Intel Ark or AMD) are the theoretical limit of the memory controller, but motherboard layout often lowers that. For 16GB, that’s rarely an issue.
