16GB RAM helps. Don’t go nuts.

Yes. Bumping from 8GB to 16GB will noticeably reduce stuttering in modded Minecraft with 100+ mods. 8GB total system RAM just doesn’t leave enough room for Windows, Minecraft, and the JVM to breathe once you’ve loaded up a hundred mods.

The real culprit isn’t the mods themselves—it’s Java’s garbage collection. With 8GB total, you’re probably allocating only 4–5GB to Minecraft. That’s tight for 100+ mods, so the garbage collector runs constantly, causing micro-stutters and hitchy gameplay. 16GB lets you give Minecraft 6–8GB, which keeps the GC calm and the frames smooth.

Don’t go overboard, though. Giving Minecraft 12GB won’t help—it’ll actually make garbage collection longer and can cause worse stutters. 16GB total, with 6–8GB allocated to Minecraft, is the sweet spot for heavy modpacks.

It’s a cheap, easy upgrade if you’re already on an 8GB machine. Just don’t blame me when you start building auto-sorting machines at 3 AM.
