16GB won't boost your 4K frame rates.

Not really. At 4K, your GPU is the bottleneck almost every time, so adding RAM doesn’t make frames go up.

8GB is still enough for most games at 4K, even modern ones. The extra 8GB helps if you’re running a ton of background apps or playing something that genuinely eats memory (think Cities: Skylines with mods), but that’s about avoiding stutters—not raising your average FPS.

If you already have 8GB and you’re getting low frame rates at 4K, your GPU is the problem. Spend the money on a better graphics card. If you’re building new, sure, get 16GB—it’s cheap insurance. But don’t expect a magic FPS bump.

Your GPU is where the real money goes for 4K gaming. RAM is just along for the ride.
