32GB DDR4 beats 16GB DDR5 for most people

Stick with 32GB DDR4.

Capacity matters more than speed in almost every real-world scenario. 16GB is already feeling tight for gaming, video editing, or running a dozen browser tabs. Doubling your RAM to 32GB DDR4 will make a bigger difference than switching to a faster but smaller DDR5 kit.

Unless you’re building a new system that only supports DDR5, or you truly need the bandwidth for specific professional workloads (some rendering, heavy simulations), the extra 16GB will serve you better. DDR5 is faster, sure, but not fast enough to overcome being half the capacity.

More memory now beats faster memory later.
