32GB is plenty for Ableton — 64GB only if you need massive libraries

Probably not.

For most Ableton users, 32GB of RAM is the sweet spot. It handles dozens of tracks, plenty of plugins, and even some decent sample libraries without breaking a sweat. Going from 32GB to 64GB rarely changes performance unless you’re loading massive orchestral or cinematic libraries (think Kontakt with hundreds of instrument articulations).

If you’re just producing beats, EDM, or pop with typical VSTs, 64GB is wasted. Your money is better spent on a faster NVMe drive for streaming samples and a better CPU for real-time plugin processing. Even Ableton itself recommends 8GB minimum and 16GB for large projects.

The only exception: if you use huge sample libraries that load entirely into RAM (like Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra or heavy Kontakt multis), then yeah, 64GB can save you from choking. But you’ll know if you’re in that camp.

Invest in disk speed instead.
