Running four sticks puts more strain on the memory controller, especially on consumer platforms like Intel’s LGA1700 or AMD’s AM5. You might not hit rated speeds (e.g., 6000MHz DDR5) as easily, or you might have to drop to lower frequencies.
Also, four sticks are harder to stabilize with XMP/EXPO. Even if it works, troubleshooting a random crash is a drag. If you’re buying new, 2x16GB is simpler, leaves two slots open for later, and usually costs the same.
