6000MHz CL30 is the sweet spot for the 7800X3D.
It matters less than you think, but you should still aim for 6000MHz CL30.
The giant 3D V-cache on this chip makes it way less sensitive to RAM speed than a standard Ryzen chip. You’ll see a real bump going from stock JEDEC speeds (like 4800MHz) up to 6000MHz, but after that the gains are tiny.
More importantly, Zen 4 works best when the memory controller runs in 1:1 mode with the RAM (UCLK=MCLK). 6000MHz is the highest speed that reliably stays in that mode. Go higher and the CPU usually switches to a 2:1 ratio, which actually hurts latency and can cause instability. You’d be paying more for worse performance.
So don’t overthink it. Get a decent 6000MHz CL30 kit. Don’t chase 6400 or 7200 unless you enjoy troubleshooting random crashes for a 2% gain.
Save the extra cash for a better GPU.
