A 1-Liter Lunch Box Is Right for 600 Calories
A 1-liter lunch box is the sweet spot for a typical 600-calorie meal.
That might sound small, but cooked food is denser than people expect. A balanced 600-calorie lunch — say, a portion of chicken, a cup of rice, some vegetables, and a bit of dressing or oil — is usually about 3 to 4 cups of food. A liter holds about 4 cups, so it fits.
If your lunch is mostly raw salad or massive volumes of veggies, go ahead and get a 1.5-liter box. But for normal cooked meals, 1 liter is enough. And it keeps you honest: a bigger box just invites you to fill it with extra calories you didn’t plan on.
To estimate your own meal, measure it once with a measuring cup. If your usual lunch comes in under 4 cups, get a 1-liter box. Over that, bump up.
Your lunch doesn’t need a backpack.
