A beach tent is the only must-have.

Everything else is nice but optional. A good UPF 50+ pop-up tent changes the beach from “I’m slowly roasting” to “this is actually relaxing.”

You don’t need a wagon, a Bluetooth speaker, a fancy cooler, or a special beach chair. You need shade. Without it, you’re either baking or reapplying sunscreen every 45 minutes. With a tent, you get a home base. You can leave your stuff, take a break from the sun, and actually stay at the beach longer than two hours.

The 2025 trick is to get one with sand pockets and a wide base so it doesn’t flip in a breeze. The $30 ones from Walmart work fine. Spend the rest of your budget on a good cooler and a book.

The beach is better when you aren’t fighting the sun.
