A built-in ice pack is your best bet.
If you want food cold for 8+ hours, something has to actually freeze. No amount of insulation alone does that — insulation just slows down warming.
So look for a lunch box with an integrated cooling component: either a gel pack that clips into the lid, or a liner that you throw in the freezer overnight. You’re still using an ice pack, technically, but it’s not separate. Brands like PackIt and Arctic Zone make these. The “freeze the whole bag” ones work surprisingly well if you pre-chill them fully.
Bigger is not necessarily better — dense insulation and a real seal matter more than size. Also pre-chill the food before you pack it, and don’t open the bag all day. That gets you closer to the full 8 hours.
If you absolutely refuse to freeze anything, then the only real answer is an electric cooler. For everything else, built-in freeze packs are the way to go.
