A cooler is not a fridge—even with power.

No, you can’t turn a passive cooler into a refrigerator just by plugging it in. If you have electricity at your campsite, get a thermoelectric or compressor cooler (or a mini-fridge). A standard ice chest still needs ice, no matter how many outlets are nearby.

Thermoelectric coolers (like a 12V model) can keep things cool, but they won’t freeze. Compressor coolers are better—they actually get cold like a mini-fridge. Both need power. A basic Coleman cooler will just melt ice faster in the heat, even if you have a fan blowing on it.

If you already have a good passive cooler and access to ice, you’re fine. But if you’re expecting a fridge without buying ice, you need the right kind of cooler
