A glass bento box with 3 sections is the move
A glass bento box with three compartments is the best lunch box for meal prep. You don’t need more than that, and glass beats plastic if you’re reheating in it.
Three sections is the sweet spot: one for protein, one for carbs, one for veg. That covers 90% of meal prep. Four is fine if you need a sauce or fruit separate, but you’ll quickly find that fourth compartment just makes the box awkwardly large. Two isn’t enough unless you’re mixing food together, which defeats the point.
Glass is better for reheating, period. It heats evenly, doesn’t warp, and doesn’t absorb smells or stains like plastic does. You’ve eaten reheated tomato sauce from a plastic container — it lingers. Glass won’t do that.
The catch is weight. A glass box with three sections is heavy, and the lid is usually plastic with clips that can break if you’re rough. If you’re carrying it to work every day, that’s annoying. But if you’re reheating in a microwave at the office, glass is the right trade. Plastic is fine if you only pack salads or eat cold food, but for hot meal prep, don’t be cheap.
Get one that’s microwave-safe with a vented lid, and you’re set. Make sure the compartments are real partitions, not just a tray sitting inside — the single-piece glass ones hold up better.
Future You deserves lunch that doesn’t taste like the container it lived in.
