A glass mousepad is faster but pickier about sensors.

Pretty different. Glass gives you that near-frictionless, almost icy glide—faster than any ceramic pad I’ve used. But it demands good PTFE skates and a sensor that won’t freak out on reflective surfaces. Some optical sensors (especially older ones) stutter or skip on glass.

Ceramic pads are usually a coated hard surface or actual ceramic tiles. They’re smooth but have a tiny bit more texture—still fast, but not as slick as glass. The trade-off: sensor compatibility is basically a non-issue. Ceramic surfaces are opaque and work with almost everything out of the box.

If you want pure speed and don’t mind upgrading your mouse feet, glass wins. If you want fast but fuss-free, go ceramic.

Forget the hype—most people wouldn’t notice the difference in a blind test anyway.
