A plain text file is your best Q1 habit tracker
The simplest habit tracker is a single note with three lines, updated once a day. Pick your metrics, write the date, mark zero or one. That’s it.
Feature creep happens because apps want you to stay. They add streaks, graphs, tags, reminders, social sharing, color coding. You stop tracking habits and start managing the app. The fix is to use a tool that can’t do any of that.
Here’s the design: decide you only track three things. Not four, not five. Three. Write them down in a notes app (Apple Notes, Google Keep, a.txt file), or on an index card. Each day, write the date and a Y/N for each. That’s the entire system.
Why three? Because you’ll actually do it. More than that and you start optimizing the tracker instead of the habits. You can rotate metrics each month, but never have more than three live at once.
Avoiding feature creep means choosing a tool that doesn’t offer features. A physical notebook is great
