A pool cover keeps out leaves, not kids.

It’s a maintenance tool, not a safety device.

The three main types: solar covers (thin bubbles, keeps heat in, useless for safety), winter covers (heavy tarp with water bags or anchors, keeps debris out), and safety covers (mesh or solid, anchored into concrete, meets ASTM standards). Only the last one is designed to support weight, and even then, you should never let anyone walk on it unsupervised.

Safety rules are simple: never cover a pool with people in it, never let anyone walk on the cover, pump standing water off winter covers so kids don’t drown in the puddle, and keep the cover tight with proper anchors. Loose covers are death traps.

If you want child safety, buy a fence with a self-latching gate. The cover is just for falling leaves.
