A rectangular cooler bag beats a fancy lunchbox

If you’re commuting on two wheels, the best lunch box is a flat-bottomed, rectangular insulated cooler bag that you can clip to the inside of your backpack.

Round lunchboxes and flimsy tote-style bags are the enemy. They roll around, bulge into your laptop, and turn every pothole into a game of grocery Tetris. A rectangle sits flush against the back of your pack, doesn’t shift side to side, and uses wasted space efficiently.

Look for a soft-sided bag with firm foam insulation — it keeps its shape without taking up permanent room. And make sure it has a webbing loop or carabiner attachment on the outside.
