A rotomolded cooler beats every lunchbox on a job site.

If you’re doing physical labor, the best “lunch box” is a small rotomolded cooler — not a traditional lunchbox.

Rotomolded plastic is the same stuff you see on heavy-duty kayaks and gun cases. It’s seamless, thick-walled, and designed to bounce. Drop it off a tailgate, kick it under a bench, or step on it to reach something — it won’t crack. That’s the whole job.

Traditional lunchboxes from Stanley or Igloo look tough, but they’re usually injection-molded with thin plastic hinges that snap after six months. Soft-sided bags get crushed or cut on the first ree-bar snag. You need a box that treats your sandwich like a phone in an OtterBox.

The real winners:

• Pelican 20QT Elite — Indestructible, has a proper gasket, and it can be locked. Also pricey, but you’ll likely pass it down to your kid.
• Yeti Roadie 24 — Great latches, comfortable handle, and the flat lid works as a stool. Heavy, but you’re already carrying tools.
• Igloo BMX 14QT — The budget pick. Same rotomolded concept, costs about a third of the Yeti. Slightly thinner, still way tougher than a lunchbox.

If you don’t need to keep food cold, a Stanley Master Unbreakable is a solid classic — but it’s basically a tool box with a handle. Once you go rotomolded, you’ll stop buying a new lunchbox every year.
