A rotomolded cooler is the only real option for 5 days.
Yes, you need a high-end rotomolded cooler like a Yeti, RTIC, or similar if you want ice to last five days without resupply.
The cheap Coleman or Igloo coolers you grab at the big box store will keep things cold for maybe two days in summer. After that, you’re swimming in lukewarm water and spoiled food. Rotomolded coolers have thick, insulated walls that seal tight. They’re heavy and expensive, but they actually hold ice for days—even a week—if you pre-chill and keep them out of direct sun.
You don’t need the most expensive brand. RTIC and similar knockoffs work nearly as well for a lot less. Just make sure it’s rotomolded, not injection molded. And pack it smart: pre-frozen drinks as ice blocks, keep it shaded, open it as little as possible.
For five days on your own, this is not where you go cheap. Future You will thank Present You when you’re eating cold cuts on day four instead of tortillas and peanut butter.
