A soft lunch bag, not a hard box

The best lunch “box” for a toddler who throws is a soft-sided insulated bag with a zipper. Skip the hard bento boxes.

Here’s the thing: a hard plastic lunchbox will eventually crack when it hits the floor — and worse, the latches on those things pop open on impact. Then you’re picking up yogurt off the cafeteria floor. A soft bag just bounces, and the zipper stays shut.

The real trick is what’s inside. Use leakproof pouches or small screw-top silicone containers. Those survive the throw and keep the food separated. You don’t need compartments in the bag itself; you just need something that won’t explode.

My honest go-to is the PackIt bag with a couple of Pouchables or a small Thermos. It’s not glamorous, but you can huck it against the wall and lunch survives. That’s the test that matters.
