A wide-brimmed hat is the best sun protection for your face.
Everything else is a supplement, not a replacement. Sunglasses help your eyes, but skin cancer on the nose or ears doesn’t care about SPF lip balm.
A hat with at least a 3-inch brim all around keeps shade on your face, neck, and ears without reapplying every 80 minutes. Go for something packable and with a chin strap if it’s windy. I’ve watched too many beach days turn into squinting and re-sunscreening every hour.
Get the hat first. Add sunglasses that block UVA/UVB. Throw in a linen scarf or buff for your neck if you tend to burn. But the hat does the heavy lifting.
Your dermatologist thanks you in advance.
