Adding an identical stick will enable dual-channel.
Yes, as long as you put it in the right slot.
Dual-channel just needs two matching sticks in the correct memory slots. If your current 8GB is in slot A2 (or whichever the manual says for single stick), adding the same model in B2 will kick it into dual-channel mode automatically. The motherboard handles the rest.
The catch is “identical” really means identical: same speed, timings, voltage, and ideally the same kit. Two sticks from the same batch are safest. Mismatched sticks might still work in dual-channel if they’re close, but can be flaky. So if you’re buying a second stick, get the exact same model number.
Also check your motherboard manual for the correct slot configuration. Usually it’s slots 2 and 4 (or A2 and B2) for dual-channel. Don’t just shove it in any empty slot.
One more thing: if you’re running a Ryzen system, dual-channel is worth doing — it matters more for those CPUs.
Just make sure they’re in the right slots and you’ll be fine.
