Anti-static mousepads help, but not forever.

Yes, they reduce dust attraction, but the coating is temporary and regular cleaning will wear it down faster.

The anti-static coating works by dissipating static charge, so dust isn’t pulled onto the surface like a magnet. It’s real, and you’ll notice less of that fine gray lint buildup. But coatings are thin. Wiping with water, mild soap, or any cleaner slowly strips it away. A few months of weekly cleaning and the benefit drops off noticeably.

You can extend the life by using only a dry microfiber cloth or a barely-damp one, no chemicals. But eventually it’s just a regular mousepad again. If you hate dust, get a hard-surface pad instead—less static, easier to clean, no coating to worry about.

The coating is a nice bonus, not a lifetime feature.
