Automatic covers don't change the basics much
Pretty much the same as any pool, but you need to protect the cover’s motor and tracks.
Drop the water level below the skimmer—usually about 6 inches below the tile line. Blow out the return lines and skimmer lines, add antifreeze, plug them. Then drain the pump, filter, and heater. Balance the water chemistry and add winterizing chemicals. That part is identical to a manual cover pool.
Now the extra step: secure the automatic cover’s mechanism. Disconnect the motor from power or flip the breaker. If the motor is exposed, cover it with a waterproof box or plastic wrap to keep moisture out. Lubricate the tracks and the fabric’s underside to prevent freezing debris from tearing it. Run the cover all the way closed (some people leave it a few inches open for rainwater drainage—check your manual). I’d also install a cover pump on top so standing water doesn’t freeze and strain the fabric or mechanism.
The cover is the expensive part; don’t let winter ruin it.
