Baking soda and sunlight are your best friends.

Tomato and curry stains come out with some elbow grease, baking soda, and sunlight — but only if you avoid scrubbing too hard.

Start with hot water and a good grease-cutting dish soap. Let the container soak for 10-15 minutes. Then scrub gently with the soft side of a sponge. These stains are partly oil-based, so the soap matters more than the scrubbing.

If the stain is still there, make a paste of baking soda and water, spread it over the stained area, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse. For turmeric-heavy curry stains, put the container out in direct sunlight for a few hours. UV light actually breaks down the yellow pigment. Sounds weird, works.

For stubborn tomato stains, soak in an oxygen bleach solution (like OxiClean) or a diluted bleach solution if the plastic is white. Avoid abrasive scrubbers entirely — they scratch the surface, and scratched plastic holds onto pigment forever.

One caveat: if the container has been microwaved or run through the dishwasher with that stain on it, the pigment may be baked into the plastic. That’s close to permanent. Don’t wreck the container over it.

Or just switch to glass and skip this whole mess.
