BBC banned "A Day in the Life" for drug references.
Not “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” though that one has the obvious LSD initials. The BBC actually banned “A Day in the Life” back in 1967 because of the line “I’d love to turn you on.” They considered it a direct drug reference. Never mind that the phrase was more about expanding consciousness than a specific substance—BBC heard what it wanted to hear.
The song itself wasn’t even about drugs. It started as two unfinished songs John and Paul stitched together. But the BBC had their call, and it stayed off airwaves until they caved years later. If you’re looking for the “banned for drugs” Beatles song, that’s the one.
