Bentgo’s original three-compartment box is still the best at keeping food separate without leaking, and it’s cheap enough to replace when you inevitably drop it.

You get one main compartment and two smaller ones under a leak-proof lid. Microwave it, toss it in the dishwasher, throw it sideways in your bag — it just works. It’s around $25 and you don’t have to think about it again.

If you’d rather not eat out of plastic, get a PlanetBox Rover. It’s stainless steel with fixed compartments you can’t rearrange. It’s heavier, pricier, and the magnetic latch takes a week to get used to, but it’s built like a tank. Just know that runny stuff like yogurt or hummus will sneak past the lid, so pack those separately.

Skip the cheap Amazon knockoffs. The seals are garbage and the plastic is flimsy — you’ll be eating curry-flavored rice and dealing with warped lids within a month.

Oh, and if this is for a kid, just get the Bentgo Kids version. It survives drops, roughhousing, and the school dishwasher, and the five compartments keep the strawberries from committing crimes against the chicken nuggets.
