Bentgo Kids is the lunch box to get

Bentgo Kids is the lunch box most toddlers can actually open on their own, and it’s the one I’d buy.

The trick is the two side latches. They’re soft spring-loaded tabs that flip up with a little thumb press, not the snap-shut seals you see on adult bento boxes. A 2-year-old can figure it out. The lid is hinged to the base, so there’s nothing to drop, lose, or pinch little fingers in. No sharp edges, no tight slam-close lid.

It’s dishwasher safe, the portions are sized right for a toddler, and it survives being dropped — which will happen constantly. One caveat: don’t trust it fully with runny yogurt. The seal is good, not perfect, and if you pack soup you’re gambling. But for sandwiches, fruit, crackers, cheese, and veggies, it’s the right box.

The only alternative worth considering is a simple lift-off lid box if your kid refuses latches entirely. But then you’re back to the “help, I can’t get the lid on” whine at preschool. Bentgo solves that.

Your toddler will still throw it on the floor and demand the fruit snacks instead. But at least they’ll be the one who opened it.
