Bento boxes beat parchment paper

The easiest answer is a bento-style lunch box with separate compartments, no negotiation needed.

Kids who hate food touching aren’t being dramatic — they just want their sandwich to taste like sandwich, not like orange. You can argue about it, or you can buy a lunch box with built-in dividers. That’s the whole fix.

If you already have a regular lunch box, don’t rush out and buy a new one yet. Silicone muffin cups, small paper cups, or even those little reusable sauce containers work fine. You just need a physical barrier. The point is to stop making the separation a daily project.

Also worth trying: let the kid pack their own lunch. When they choose what goes where, they tend to be way more relaxed about the rules. You’re not fighting about it, they’re just building a meal the way they like it. Some kids never grow out of the no-touch thing, but that’s okay. This is not where you win parenting points.

Future you deserves less arguing over lunch.
