Bento dividers are picky about brand

Most lunchbox inserts only fit the container they were made for, so cross-brand compatibility is basically a myth. If you want to turn a plain container into a bento, you have two good options and a lot of wasted money ahead of you.

The snap-in plastic trays — the ones from Bentgo, Sistema, and similar brands — are designed for their own boxes. The outer dimensions, the rim shape, the little tabs that lock it in place: they all differ. You can’t swap a Sistema divider into a Rubbermaid container. Don’t try.

The smarter move is to buy generic silicone or adjustable dividers. Silicone ones work in any straight-sided rectangular container as long as the interior width and height match. Measure first. Spring-loaded or sliding dividers are also fairly universal, and they let you adjust section sizes. Just know that none of them seal tightly, so wet foods will leak into each other.

Honestly, if compartments are the whole point, buy a container that already has them built in. The inserts are a workaround, not a system. You’ll spend less time fiddling and more time packing lunch.
