Berries survive when the container is full
Your berries are getting crushed because they’re rattling around in a hard container with too much empty space. Fill that space and the bag situation mostly stops mattering.
The move is a rigid, lidded container — never a plastic bag. Inside, tuck a folded paper towel over the top of the fruit. It presses everything in place, absorbs moisture, and takes the hits. Make sure the berries are dry before you pack them; damp berries are already halfway to mush.
Where the container sits matters too. Heavy stuff on the bottom, fruit on top, or wedged sideways so it can’t slide. If your bag gets thrown around, a Mason jar or a small deli container is basically bulletproof. A soft-sided bento box won’t save you — you need rigid walls and a tight lid.
That’s it. Dry fruit, full container, cushion in the gap, top of the bag. Your lunch will actually make it to lunch.
