Big wheels or bust for beach wagons.
Wide, balloon-style tires. That’s the only real answer.
Soft sand is the enemy of standard plastic wheels — they sink instantly. Balloon tires (typically 10–12 inches wide, low pressure) float on top like a dune buggy. Combined with a sturdy frame and good bearings (sealed ball bearings help), you can haul a cooler, chairs, and a tent without cursing every ten feet.
Don’t overthink it: look for “balloon” or “fat” tires, a steel frame (aluminum bends under heavy loads), and a weight rating at least 50% above what you plan to carry. The rest is just branding and color options.
Price scales with wheel size and handle quality. You don’t need a $400 wagon unless you’re hauling for a small army. A $150–200 one with the right wheels will outlast a beach season or two.
