Bleach is fine, just rinse.

Yes, dilute bleach works. Use one tablespoon bleach per gallon of water. Wipe the interior, including the seal gently, then rinse repeatedly with clean water. The seal material is rubber, not paper — it can handle brief bleach contact. You just don’t want bleach sitting on there for hours.

Vinegar is also fine, and less harsh, but it’s slower. If the mold is stubborn, bleach is better. Just don’t scrub the seal with a brush or abrasive pad. That’s what actually damages it.

Let it dry completely open before closing. Future mold loves damp dark spots.
