Body sunscreen on your face? It works, but expect regrets.
Yes, the SPF protection is the same, so you won’t burn. But body sunscreen is thicker, greasier, and more likely to clog pores or sting your eyes. If you’re in a pinch — camping, beach trip, forgot your face sunscreen — go ahead. Just don’t make it a habit.
Face sunscreens are formulated with different textures and ingredients that sit better under makeup, don’t pill, and are less likely to trigger breakouts. Body formulas are built to spread over large areas and stay put through sweat and movement. That thickness doesn’t translate well to the smaller, more sensitive skin on your face.
The eye sting is the real kicker. Body sunscreen migrates when you sweat, and getting that in your eyes is a special kind of hell. I’ve done it. I regretted it.
If you’re committed to using one product for both, look for something labeled “face and body.” Otherwise, spend the extra $10 on a dedicated face sunscreen. Your pores and your eyes will thank you.
