Boring lunch bags are the only ones that last

The lunch boxes that actually survive a year for under $15 are the boring insulated bags from Igloo and Fit & Fresh — not the cute ones.

Every cheap lunch box fails at the same spot: the zipper. The cute patterned bags with the skinny zippers and nine little pockets die in about six months. The plain vinyl-looking bag with the chunky zipper and foil lining inside? I’ve seen those endure years of being thrown in a work truck.

If you want the honestly indestructible option, the old-school hard plastic lunchbox with the metal latch still exists, usually around $12. It will outlive you. The downside is zero insulation, so pack a cold pack or accept lukewarm yogurt.

One rule either way: make sure it has a real zipper, not velcro. Velcro is dead in three months, guaranteed.

Don’t overthink it. Boring wins.
