Box fans can cool a kennel, but aim for airflow, not direct wind

A box fan can help cool a pet kennel or crate safely if you set it up thoughtfully, but don’t just point it directly at your pet and walk away.

The main thing to understand is that fans cool by moving air across a surface, which helps evaporate moisture (sweat or panting). They don’t actually lower the room temperature. So if the room is hot and stuffy, a fan will help your pet feel cooler, but it won’t fix the underlying heat. For that you need AC or ice packs.

For a kennel, the safest approach is to position the box fan so it blows air across the crate, not directly into it with force. A gentle breeze through the bars is great. If you blast it straight in, some pets (especially short-nosed breeds like pugs) might find it uncomfortable or even stressful. Also, make sure the fan is
