Box fans don't belong on ceilings

You can mount a box fan on a wall or ceiling, but it’s a bad idea for anything permanent.

Box fans are made of thin plastic held together by snap-fit tabs and small screws. They’re designed to sit on a floor or windowsill, not to hang overhead with gravity tugging at them day after day. The constant vibration from the motor will loosen whatever bracket you rig up, and the plastic housing can crack under sustained load.

Worst case, that fan drops on someone. Best case, it rattles like crazy and you replace it every year.

If you need fixed airflow, buy a ceiling fan with a stationary direction setting or a wall-mount circulation fan from a company like Air King or Lasko that actually builds them for that use. They cost more, but they won’t fall on your head.

Stick with products engineered for the job. This isn’t where you save thirty bucks.
