Brian Jones’ 1969 drowning: accidental or murder?

On July 3, 1969, Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool at Cotchford Farm, the East Sussex house once owned by Winnie-the-Pooh author A. A. Milne. The coroner’s verdict was “death by misadventure” — a combination of a weakened heart, liver damage from years of substance use, and a fatal combination of alcohol and drugs that likely caused him to black out in the water. The inquest heard that Jones had been drinking heavily and taking sleeping pills that night, and the pool was unlit
