Bring the pump and filter indoors.

Drain all water from both, then store them in a dry place above freezing. That is the only way to guarantee no freeze damage.

If you leave them outside, even after draining, residual water can pool in low spots or inside the filter element. When it freezes, it expands and cracks the pump housing or bursts the filter. I’ve seen it happen to people who thought “draining” meant opening the drain plug for five seconds.

The proper steps take ten minutes: remove drain plugs, tilt the pump to empty it, open the air bleed valve on the filter, and let everything sit upside down for a day. Then store them in a garage or basement. If you absolutely must leave them outside, at least cover them with a tarp and make sure all ports are open so any condensation drains out. But I wouldn’t risk it.

Future you will thank past you for the thirty minutes of effort.
