Yes. If the label doesn’t say “broad spectrum,” it only protects against UVB rays (the ones that cause sunburn) and not UVA rays (the ones that cause premature aging and skin cancer). You need both.

Most people think SPF is the whole story. It’s not. SPF measures UVB protection only. UVA rays are less intense but more constant — they go through clouds and car windows. Without broad spectrum, you’re getting a false sense of security.

So check the label. If it says “broad spectrum” or has a PA++++ rating (common in Asian sunscreens), you’re good. If it just says SPF 50 and nothing else, it’s incomplete protection.

Don’t overthink it. Broad spectrum is the baseline, not a bonus feature.
