Carbon dioxide is the main attractant

Carbon dioxide is what draws mosquitoes to you from a distance, not your blood type or sweat alone. Mosquitoes can detect CO2 from over 50 feet away. That’s the long-range signal that says “living, breathing animal over here.” Once they get closer, other things kick in.

Your blood type plays a role — Type O seems to attract more than A, and Type B is somewhere in between. But that only matters once the mosquito is already in your personal space. Sweat is a mixed bag: lactic acid and ammonia in sweat are attractive, but some people produce natural repellents in their sweat. So it’s not a simple yes/no.

The real hierarchy: CO2 is the dinner bell. Then body heat, then skin odor compounds (including your unique mix of sweat byproducts), and then maybe blood type as a tiebreaker. If you want to stop being a target, reduce your CO2 signature — you can’t stop breathing, but fans help disperse it. Also shower after exercise to cut down on the lactic acid buildup, because that’s the second thing they lock onto.
