Catching deck rainbows is all about low sun.

Yes — early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is low in the sky. Rainbows happen when sunlight hits water droplets (from rain, sprinklers, or even a hose) at just the right angle — roughly 42 degrees. That only works when the sun is close to the horizon.

If your deck faces east, you’ll see them in the morning. West-facing? Afternoon. South or north gets less action unless the sun is really low in summer.

No water, no rainbow. But if you’re willing to drag out a sprinkler, a low sun will give you a show.
