Cave of the Winds soaks you. Maid of the Mist shows you the whole thing.

Cave of the Winds is for getting drenched up close. Maid of the Mist is for seeing the falls from the river.

Cave of the Winds puts you on a wooden walkway at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. You are under the falling water. You will get soaked through, even with the poncho. The viewing angle is straight up at the water crashing over you — intense, narrow, and loud. It’s an immersive experience.

Maid of the Mist is a boat ride. You get close to the base of Horseshoe Falls and American Falls, but you stay on the water. You’ll get wet from spray, not a direct hit. The viewing angle is wider — you see the whole curtain of water from a distance. More postcard, less shower.

If you want to feel the falls on your face, do Cave. If you want the classic photo and the full sweep of the falls, do Maid. Both are worth it, but they’re different kinds of wet.

Pick your priority: soaked vs. scenic.
