Cave of the Winds wins for getting close to the rapids.

Yes, if your goal is to feel the spray and hear the roar up close, Cave of the Winds is the better choice. Three Sisters Islands are nice – you walk on islands with rapids swirling around you – but you’re still above the water, looking down. Cave of the Winds puts you right at the base of Bridal Veil Falls on wooden walkways where the water hits you. You get soaked. You feel it.

Three Sisters Islands are free and give you a great panoramic view of the rapids from above. It’s a chill walk, good for photos, and less crowded. But for getting close – like, close enough that you have to hold onto railing against the wind – Cave of the Winds is the real deal. You’re wearing sandals and a poncho, and the water slams into you. That’s the difference.

If you’re only doing one, do Cave of the Winds. Three Sisters is more of a nice stroll. Pick based on whether you want to watch the rapids or be in them.
