Check the arm first, then suspect the ice maker itself

If the water dispenser works but your ice maker is dead quiet, the first thing to check is the arm—most ice makers stop when the arm is up. On many fridges, the arm gets bumped when you pull something out of the freezer, and it stays up, silently telling the ice maker to chill out.

That’s the most common cause, and it’s a five-second fix. If the arm is down and there’s still no ice, look at the ice itself: if cubes are frozen together in a weird clump, the bin could be jammed.
