Clear it every day.
The most effective technique for a wall-mounted key holder and mail sorter is to clear it every single day — no exceptions.
Here’s why: the entire point of these organizers is to prevent piles from forming. But they only work if you process the stuff that lands there. Keys are fine to stay on the hook — that’s their home. Mail, though, needs to be dealt with within 24 hours. Otherwise, the sorter becomes a permanent junk pile and you’re back to clutter.
The actual technique: when you walk in, keys go on the hook immediately. Mail goes into the sorter only if it needs action (bills, reminders, something you can’t throw away right now). Everything else goes straight into recycling or the trash. That’s it. One sorting decision, right there, before you take your coat off.
Set a reminder on your phone for a daily “clear the entryway” minute. If the sorter has anything
