Cloudy water after shocking means it's working.

Yes, that’s normal — it’s the dead algae and organic matter being oxidized and filtered out.

When you shock the pool, you’re basically nuking everything alive in the water. Those dead particles are too fine to settle or get caught by the filter right away, so the water looks milky or hazy. Give it 24 to 48 hours with the pump running continuously, and it should clear up.

If it doesn’t clear after two days, check your filter (backwash or clean it), and make sure your pH and alkalinity are in range. You can add a pool clarifier to help the filter grab the tiny particles faster. Don’t add more shock — you’ll just kill more stuff and make it worse.

Your pool isn’t broken. Just give it time.
