Composition books win for durability, no contest

Composition books beat spiral notebooks for daily durability, and it isn’t close.

The spiral binding is the weak point. It bends, snags on bag lining, and once a few coils crush, the pages start tearing out from the top. You’ve seen it a hundred times. Composition books have a stitched or glued spine under a heavy card cover, so pages stay put even when the book gets thrown around.

That doesn’t make composition books perfect. They don’t lie flat, and if you’re left-handed, the sewn spine is genuinely annoying. If your notebook never leaves a desk, a spiral is fine and easier to use. But if it lives in a backpack, commutes, gets shoved in pockets, go composition every time.

Buy the ugly marbled one. It’ll outlast everything else in your bag.
