Compression shorts and a rash guard work best.

Seriously, that’s the move. Bikinis and traditional swimsuits don’t hold up when you’re diving, jumping, and sliding in sand. You’ll spend more time adjusting wedgies than spiking the ball.

Board shorts are okay but can get heavy with wet sand. Compression shorts or volleyball-specific spandex stay put and dry fast. For the top, a rash guard or a snug sports bra-style top gives you coverage and lets you move freely.

Sun protection is a bonus. Beach volleyball means hours in direct sunlight, so covering more skin with quick-dry fabric beats slathering sunscreen on every exposed inch.

One last thing: avoid anything with ties or dangling straps. They’ll either come undone or catch on something at the worst possible moment.
